Prego was set up in 1998 by sisters Paula and Caro Whiteside. They shared a passion for Design, and wanted to make great contemporary furniture designs more widely available. At the time, in the UK, there was little on offer outside of London. Their aim was to offer a friendly and personal service, and they continue to be the main point of contact for web-based and showroom customers. The name Prego in Italian means 'You're welcome', and this is how Paula and Caro would like all their customers to feel!
The range of suppliers to Prego has been built on over the years to incorporate their customers' preferences as well as their own passions. They are dealers for B&B Italia, Max Alto, Knoll, SCP, Content by Conran, Driade, MDF Italia, Kartell, Sancal and Artifort, and are thereby able to offer the continuing after-sales service and support appreciated by customers willing to invest in the best.
The reputation of the company has spread widely, and they have customers across the UK, for whom they have even delivered items to their holiday homes in Europe. The Sunday Times has described the shop as "The city's (Sheffield's) most tempting design haven" "This beautiful, two-storey, glass-fronted boutique has a fantastic selection of furniture..." Harpers and Queen magazine selected Prego as one of their 'Best UK Interiors Shops'; and Max Fraser, author of Design UK, considered Prego to be among the top 20 UK Design Stores, describing it as "a mini Conran shop of the North".
